Nick Abbey to join Hundred Houses as new chair

Hundred Houses Society is delighted to announce that when current Chair Ian Kidman steps down in September, he will be replaced by Nick Abbey.

Nick is currently Chief Executive of the ExtraCare Charitable Trust which develops and manages affordable retirement villages throughout the Midlands, including five in Birmingham and two in Milton Keynes. 

Prior to that he was Chief Executive at Hereward Housing, in Cambridgeshire from 1992 until it joined Sanctuary Housing Group in 2005, and was later Sanctuary’s Group Director responsible for services for tenants and leaseholders in 57,000 homes throughout England and Scotland. Nick has been Vice Chair of the National Housing Federation and was Chair of a Local Strategic Partnership. He is currently Vice Chair of ARCO – Associated Retirement Community Operators – a trade body for both private and not-for-profit operators of housing with care.  

Nick, a keen walker and marathon runner, including 10 London marathons, will be stepping down from his current role in September and relocating back to Cambridgeshire.  He said “I am very excited about working with the board, staff and residents of Hundred Houses, and am looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

Retiring Chair, Ian Kidman said “I am thrilled that Nick is taking on the role of Chair, and I am confident that he will steer the Society in the right direction and improve the work and profile of the Society. I’ve enjoyed my 10 years with Hundred Houses immensely, and I wish Nick and the Society every success for the future.”
