VILLAGE HOMES FOR LOCAL PEOPLE Hundred Houses, has officially launched a development of 12 new affordable homes, built specifically to meet the housing requirements of those with a local connection to Cottenham. Located on the western side of the village, the development comprises one four bedroom house, one three bedroom house, four two bedroom houses, four two bedroom flats and two wheelchair accessible bungalows, each with two bedrooms. The homes have been built with the aid of a grant from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), who provided funding to the value of £450,000 towards the cost of the £1.2 million scheme. Cottenham is a rural community, and the scheme has given those who have local connections to the village, or the surrounding parishes, the opportunity to remain in the area in a new home at a rent that is affordable.
The building contractor, Cocksedge Building Services of Mildenhall, worked with architect Simon Ward and quantity surveyors, Playle & Partners to complete the development. The scheme is fully compliant with the HCA Design and Quality Standards and has achieved the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. Councillor Nightingale, Chairman of South Cambridgeshire District Council, officially opened the site on 25 March 2010 and commented, ”This development has made good use of our exception sites policy which recognises the need to provide affordable homes for local people.
